The Greening of Fortitude Valley

Fortitude Valley is receiving a green makeover as part of the Brisbane City Council’s future planning for the valley. Over $2 million will be spent to create a subtropical environment running up through Wickham Terrace.
Work for the project will begin late in this year and will be completed by 2010. The project will include wide footpaths, raised garden beds and shade for walkers to commute between the Valley, RNA, and Emporium.

Bids for ferry locations
As part of its expansion of Portside wharf, Brookfield Multiplex has made a two million dollar bid for a new city cat stop at the development area. The bid is amongst other bids for upgrades to city cat terminals along the Brisbane River. In particular, the Northshore Development Group has made a bid for a terminal to be situated at their housing development area.

Music College for Fortitude Valley
Opening in Fortitude Valley, the Music Industry College will begin lessons in the new year. The college will provide a career path link for students in grades 11 & 12. While supporting students with lessons focusing on the music business, the school will also teach the traditional mathematics and English program.

Newstead Construction
Construction of a 16-storey office building has been given approval to be built on Breakfast Creek Road, Newstead. Although the developer, Watpac, has yet to confirm a major tenant for the building, the company is confident the project will revitalise the riverside area.

Northshore and Bowen Hills Development
The Urban Land Development Authority (ULDA), set up under the Queensland Housing Affordability Strategy has been given approval to guide development of both Northshore Development and Bowen Hills Urban Development Area. In the Northshore Development at Hamilton, up to 8600 homes are planned to be created for 15,500 people.

Crosby Park Upgrade
Community Opinion is being sought for the upgrade of Crosby Park at Hamilton. The 12 hectare site which is host to Brother’s Rugby Club and Queensland Cricket is scheduled for upgrades of up to $700,000.

NE Brisbane Improvements

Improvements for North-East Brisbane

Although in the middle of an economic downturn, the North-East corridor of Brisbane is experiencing a resurgance of upgrades in infrastructure and development projects. Brisbane City Council has given approval for the planning of multi-level buildings to be constructed in the areas of Bracken Ridge, Boondall, Bald Hills, Bridgeman Downs, Carseldine, Zillmere, and Deagon under the Bracken Ridge and Districts Neighbourhood Plan.

In Banyo, the Suburban Centre Improvement Project (SCIP) has been approved to begin construction in March of 2010 with 10 out of 18 local businesses voting for improvements to be made in the banyo commercial centre with a cost to local businesses of $350,000 over ten years.

Work has also commenced on the new Queensland Emergency Operations Centre, the 78 million dollar facility which will host the headquarters of Queensland ambulance, fire and rescue, and emergency management. The centre will employ up to two hundred staff during peak periods.
